Wentzville, Missouri

The history of St. Patrick Parish traces back to the mid-1800s, when German immigrants settled in the Wentzville area, followed by Irish railroad workers who stayed to farm after building the Wabash Railroad. Early Catholics traveled to Josephville for Mass until Archbishop Peter Kenrick granted permission for a church and school in Wentzville. On September 15, 1882, Bishop Patrick J. Ryan dedicated the new mission as St. Patrick Parish, on the Church Street property the parish still occupies. The parish school opened in 1909, and today St. Patrick forms disciples through its school, faith formation, the St. Patrick Catechetical Institute and many ministries.
