About St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church
Hampshire, Illinois
St. Charles Borromeo is a Catholic parish in Hampshire, Illinois, whose first church was built in 1878 by Irish and German-speaking Alsatian families. Its second pastor, Fr. Charles Rosenbaurer, named it for his patron saint, keeping harmony between those who wanted St. Patrick and those who wanted St. Joseph. The red-brick Gothic church, with its Munich stained glass windows, dates to 1908, and the parish school opened in 1929 under the Dominican Sisters of Springfield. The parish also offers Family Faith Formation, a youth group and Adoration, and is working toward building a new church on land beside its cemetery.
Address: 297 E. Jefferson St., Hampshire, IL, 60140
